Winter is a great time to escape the crowds and see a landscape unlike any other, a place where snow blankets the ground as steaming geysers spout into cool crisp air.
Weather
Expect temperatures to vary widely in the winter with daytime temps ranging from 0 degrees F to around freezing (although temperatures can be dramatically colder). Protect yourself against Yellowstone National Park's hypothermic weather by dressing warmly. Layers allow you to adjust your number of clothing articles to correspond with your level of physical exertion.
Winter Lodging
If you wish to stay in Yellowstone National Park, a wise move is to make reservations well in advance. If you don't want to plan so far in advance, expect to stay in one of Yellowstone National Park's Gateway Communities where you'll find a host of amenities and services ready to serve you.
Lodging Facilities in the Park
Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel is the only winter lodging facility accessible by car. Old Faithful Snow Lodge is the other available option, which is only accessible by over-the-snow vehicles.
