Canoeing and kayaking is permitted on Lewis and Yellowstone Lakes, as well as on rivers and lakes surrounding Yellowstone National Park. Weather on Yellowstone and Jackson Lake (in Jackson Hole) can be particularly unpredictable with storms rolling in fast over the mountains. Smaller lakes can offer protection from variable weather for the less experienced paddler.
